Volunteers at the Heart of the Collingwood Basketball Community

National Volunteer Week is an opportunity to recognise the people who help make basketball possible across the Collingwood basketball community every day.

From coaches, team managers and referees through to scorers, committee members, program volunteers and game day helpers, volunteers play a critical role in creating opportunities for people to connect, participate and belong through basketball.

As part of National Volunteer Week 2026, the Australian Sports Commission has launched the Volunteer Map, encouraging sporting organisations and communities across the country to celebrate the people who power sport.

The Volunteer Map gives clubs, associations and individuals the chance to recognise volunteers aged 18 and over by sharing their stories and contributions to sport in local communities.

More than 700 volunteer stories from across Australia have already been added to the map, highlighting the impact volunteers continue to have in creating welcoming, inclusive and connected sporting environments.

General Manager Shaun McEachin said volunteers remain at the heart of everything the Collingwood Basketball Association delivers.

“Volunteers are central to the strength of our basketball community. Every training session, game, program and event relies on people who give their time to support others and create positive experiences.”

“We’re fortunate to have volunteers who care deeply about our players, families and community. National Volunteer Week is an important opportunity to recognise and thank them for the role they play across every part of the association.”

The Collingwood Basketball Association encourages the community to recognise a volunteer this National Volunteer Week by visiting the ASC Volunteer Map and sharing their story.
