ON THE DAY
Players will be placed into groups and participate in a range of basketball activities designed to assess different areas of their game.
Players may participate in a combination of skill-based activities, small-sided games, and full-court play depending on their age group.
Our coaching staff will be observing players throughout the session. Every player will be given an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities, so we encourage players to focus on competing, making good decisions, communicating, and supporting those around them.

PLAYER NUMBERS
Players will be allocated a trial number on arrival. This number will be written on their leg or arm. Coaches will generally refer to players by their allocated number throughout the session.

A FEW IMPORTANT REMINDERS
Please arrive on time and ready to participate
We recommend eating a suitable meal/snack before the session
Please advise our staff of any relevant injury or physical limitation before taking the court
Parents/guardians are welcome to attend; however, we ask that you allow our coaching staff to conduct the session without interruption
Players should bring a positive attitude and be prepared to compete

REGISTRATION FOR A TRYOUT DOES NOT GUARANTEE SELECTION INTO A VJBL TEAM
We want to be transparent with all players and families about the VJBL selection process. Unlike our domestic competitions, VJBL teams have strict limits on the total number of players and teams. This means that, unfortunately, we cannot offer a place to every player who registers and attends a tryout. As a result, cuts will form part of the selection process. Coaches will be required to make decisions based on the needs and balance of each team, as well as the overall performance of players throughout the tryout process. We also understand that players will come into tryouts with different levels of experience. Every player will have the opportunity to demonstrate what they can offer, but the limited number of positions means that not everyone can be selected. We appreciate that this can be a difficult part of representative basketball. At Collingwood, our aim is to create the strongest possible environment for each team while ensuring that players are placed in an appropriate basketball environment for their ongoing development.

WHEN WILL I LEARN THAT MY CHILD HAS BEEN SELECTED FOR A TEAM?
Selection decisions will be communicated following the second tryout session for each age group. We ask all players and families to please be patient during this process, as our coaching staff and Basketball Department need sufficient time to carefully assess all players and consider the overall balance of each team before finalising selections. We understand that players and families will be eager to receive an outcome; however, we want to ensure that decisions are made thoughtfully and fairly rather than being rushed. Please wait for official communication from Collingwood Basketball Association rather than contacting coaches directly regarding individual selection outcomes.

FINAL MESSAGE
Most importantly, enjoy the experience. Tryouts are an opportunity for players to challenge themselves, meet other athletes, and demonstrate what they can bring to the Collingwood representative program.
We thank you again for choosing to trial with Collingwood Basketball Association and look forward to seeing everyone at the stadium.
Good luck to all players!
